Case Study: Global Service Project
During 2006, Baxter launched its most ambitious volunteerism effort ever, the Global Service Project (GSP).
Launched as part of the company’s 75th anniversary celebration in October, the GSP calls on employees to donate as a group 156,000 hours (which equals 75 years at 40 hours/week) of volunteer time. This support for volunteerism is to encourage all types and forms of community outreach, establish the tone for these activities moving forward and honor our employee efforts. Service is an important aspect of Baxter’s culture, and the company is proud to be an active participant in the many communities worldwide in which it operates.
Numerous Baxter sponsored projects are under way globally. In China, as part of Baxter’s sponsorship of a school in an impoverished village in the Chongqing municipality in western China, managers visited to teach leadership and general business skills. In the United States, U.S.-based members of Baxter’s Latin America management team painted classrooms at an assistance center for the homeless in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Individual employees and facility teams continue to develop creative volunteer activities to meet the global goal, focusing on activities that best meet local needs.
