Biodiversity
Climate change will cause a quarter of the earth's animal and plant species to become extinct by 2050, according to biologist E.O. Wilson. Baxter's efforts in the area of climate change are a step toward building a broader biodiversity strategy. Biodiversity is also an element of Baxter's Bioethics Policy.
Baxter owns or leases more than 910 hectares of land, about one quarter of which is impermeable surface. Although the company operates in countries that are home to 16 of the world's 25 biodiversity "hot spots" as identified by Conservation International, its operations are located in light industrial areas outside of biodiversity hot spots. The company does not directly extract natural products from these environments.
